John Smart is from Owhrode town in Udu Local Government Area of Delta State. He graduated in 2012 from the Obafemi Awolowo University Ile-Ife with a Second Class (Upper Division), and also from the Nigeria Law School, Enugu Campus in 2013.
He was called to the Nigeria Bar in November 28, 2013 with the name Ovhumuachwe-Smart John O’tega. He has been engaged in active legal practice up to the Supreme Court. He has initiated, concluded and/or defended various civil and criminal cases at both trial and appellate courts in Nigeria. John Smart is listed as counsel rendering pro bono services to indigent persons with the Delta State Ministry of Justice (Public Advisory Services Unit) and the Legal Aid Council of Nigeria.
He engages in writing political discuss and has written various articles both legal and political. In 2014, he authored ‘God’s Advocate (the humble life and judgements of Justice Z. A. Smith)’ with the foreword penned by a renowned lawyer; the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwase II.
He is happily married and enjoys watching football.
